Old Station 16 is located off Third Street in what is called the "Dogpatch" section of the Potrero neighborhood. City Architect John Reid Jr. designed this two-story brick structure to replace Engine 16's original 1887 home a block away. Architectural features of this two-story brick building include a cornice brightened with small colored tiles. Terra cotta keystones accent the arched dormitory windows and plaques above the doors.
The building is in need of Parapet wall reinforcement, seismic retrofit and ADA upgrades, including the installation of an elevator. We estimate the cost to upgrade and save Station 16 to be approximately 1.5 million dollars.
